2DEGREES

2Degrees, founded by Tex Edwards in February 2001 (2Degrees, n.d.) Is a New Zealand based telecommunications provider. The company provides services such as fixed line broadband, prepaid and pay-monthly mobile plans. Alongside their mobile and broadband services, consumers can purchase smartphones, wearables, tablets and sound accessories from leading brands such as Apple, Samsung, Huawei and Oppo from 2Degrees in there retail and online stores.

 

The company is a major player in the New Zealand telecommunications market. 2Degrees is the third largest mobile network with a mobile market share of 19%. The company also holds the position of the fourth largest broadband provider in New Zealand, with 7% of the broadband market share. (Commerce Commission New Zealand, 2021) Furthermore, 2Degrees has a large retail footprint nationally with a total of 59 retail stores throughout New Zealand with stores located in major cities such as Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga and Queenstown. (2degrees, n.d.)

 

2Degrees first launched its mobile-network in New Zealand on the 4th August 2009 and has since evolved and developed its strategy to becoming the fairest telecommunications company in New Zealand. 2Degrees is widely known for using the slogan “fighting for fair’ backed by initiatives such as freezing consumer broadband prices, teaming up with Amazon Prime Video to offer its service to 2Degrees broadband customers and launching a discounted plan for first responders, teachers, nurses and the military amongst other things. Alongside these benefits, 2Degrees is an active participant in charity and sustainability efforts. 2Degrees currently backs sports events such as the Super Rugby Aupiki and Super Rugby Pacific and provider’s sponsorship to the communities of Blind Low Vision NZ and Variety Children’s Charity.
